Prevent Nurse Burnout

The Nurse Burnout Prevention Program is the only comprehensive, end-to-end strategy for organizations to address burnout in healthcare.

The imperative for healthcare leaders is to create a workplace culture that values the health of their nurses as much as they value the health of their patients. Our Nurse Burnout Prevention Program provides both organizations and nurses tools, skills and insights to develop an enterprise-wide strategy for nurse well-being.

Program Development

SE Healthcare began measuring burnout in 2016 and our findings were the genesis and informed the development of the Program. Partnering with the leading expert in burnout prevention, Dr. Dike Drummond, we designed the program to be simple, scalable, and applicable to all healthcare delivery models – from small medical practices to large integrated delivery systems. Dr. Dike Drummond is a family practice physician who, having experienced burnout himself, has dedicated over 10 years to helping other physician and nurses restore balance, improve career satisfaction and reduce burnout. He has trained over 40,000 physicians and nurses, 175 corporate clients and has amassed more than 2,500 1:1 coaching hours.

Dr. Drummond’s coaching and training curriculum were transformed into a scalable platform that brings convenience, accessibility, and a technical solution to a widespread problem. Dr. Drummond designed a healthcare organization-specific, systems-based training program. He incorporated all his lessons learned working with healthcare organizations and coaching/helping thousands of physicians and nurses recover from burnout into the proven tools of SE Healthcare’s one-of-a-kind Burnout Prevention Program.

Program Components

The Enrichment Center

The contributors to burnout in nurses are unique and highly specific to the nursing profession. Nursing relies heavily on interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork. Combined with heavy patient loads and high acuity assignments, the rate of burnout in nurses currently surpasses that of physicians. The Nursing Burnout Prevention Program carries Contact Hours and includes content informed by Dr. Dike Drummond’s decade of coaching and Stephanie Sargent’s years of experience “on both sides” of healthcare – at the bedside caring for patients and in administration, listening to the voice of nurses and making positive changes at the systemic level to improve efficiencies, quality and safety and increase empowerment and career fulfillment for nurses.

The Dashboard

Survey results display in an interactive, web-based dashboard. Dashboards serve as an effective, visual means to monitor and measure progress. Individual nurses can review their personal results compared to peers. Organizations can review overall results and infinite drill downs. Filtering is available for age range, medical specialty, gender, license-type and location. Benchmarking against the KLAS Arch Collaborative dataset provides a means to compare to hundreds of other provider organizations.

The dashboard includes:

  • Overall presence of burnout
  • Frequency distribution of burnout
  • Benchmarking against peers (age range, medical specialty, gender, license-type and location)
  • AI-powered top stressor analysis
  • Frequency analysis
  • Survey completion statistics
  • Summary tables

The Assessment

Measurement is the foundation of improvement. Using a validated burnout measure, the survey is only 4 questions. Measure what matters: burnout and stressors. In 3 open-ended questions, nurses describe the top three stressors in their day-to-day practice. An AI-powered analysis provides leadership actionable findings, allowing for focused interventions and data driven decision-making.

Highlights of the assessment include:

  • 100% confidential
  • 4 total questions
  • 5 minutes to complete
  • Measures only what matters: burnout and stressors
  • Customizable
  • Dashboard completion statistics

Organizational Insights

The dashboard provides a comprehensive view of survey results. Understanding that it can be difficult to make sense of large datasets and to prioritize, SE Healthcare prepares and delivers a Summary of Finding Report. The report is delivered in PDF format and the findings are presented in an Executive Review Session. SE Healthcare’s experts provide a prioritized review of your organization’s top opportunities, coupled with action planning / implementation coaching.

The report includes:

  • Presence of burnout by demographic
  • #1, #2 and #3 top stressors
  • Survey completion statistics
  • Enrichment Center engagement statistics
  • Nurse feedback of the Enrichment Center
  • Frequency analysis on top stressors
  • Strengths / Opportunities
  • Recommendations
